Walkers Raises Awareness about Mental Health Issues

MH Walk 130 - CRMH Walk 253 - CROver 100 people participated in the Cortland Mental Health Awareness Walk to help raise awareness about mental health issues. Wearing their newly designed green t-shirts, the line of people made its way through the City of Cortland, including a loop through the downtown district. Many thanks to the Cortland City Police officers for ensuring the safety of our walkers as they crossed through busy intersections!

One in four people struggles with mental illness at some time in their life.

After the walk, everyone enjoyed lunch at Beaudry Park. Mayor Brian Tobin read a special proclamation for Mental Health Awareness Month. Alex Huntington-Ofner from Cortland County Mental Health spoke to the crowd emphasizing that “there’s no shame in getting what you need….everyone has to seek help at some point in their life.”  Alex also recognized Tim, who contributed to the winning design for this year’s walk t-shirt!
