As a United Way agency, we’re always excited to go speak to the employees at local businesses who participate in the annual United Way Campaign. Tucked away on Huntington Street, Ames Linen Service is a shining example of a company that supports the local community and encourages their employees to do so as well. The family owned business continues to grow under the leadership of Johanna Ames, the fourth generation to lead the company.
Their employees are actively engaged with the United Way initiatives and collected several barrels of food during the United Way Days of Caring and 97% contributed to the annual campaign last year….and they’re aiming for 100% this year. We enjoyed sharing information about FCS and how their gifts make a difference for the individuals and families that we serve. Their interest was sincere as many shared that FCS or other United Way agencies had helped them, family members and people they know.
After the presentation, a tour of the impressive facility brought back images from the Disney Pixar movie, Monsters Inc., with laundry bags on track systems running across the ceiling, the hum of washing machines and the smell of freshly cleaned laundry. Special machines pressed and folded linens with precision as the items were neatly stacked for distribution to restaurants, businesses and health care facilities throughout the region.
At FCS, your United Way gifts help cover the cost of counseling services for people with limited or no insurance, support the Youth Assist Program that matches struggling youth with an adult mentor, and allow us to offer a supervised children’s waiting room for families using our counseling services.
Thank You! You’re making a difference and we’re most grateful for that support.
When it comes time to fill out this year’s United Way pledge card, please give as generously as you can.
