The Chittenango community is taking a proactive approach to educate parents, students and other community members about heroin and prescription opioid abuse. At a recent Town Hall Meeting, professionals from throughout the region, including staff from our FCS Oneida office, joined together to share information and resources to help people learn about addiction and its warning signs.

At FCS we are taking a proactive approach by educating parents so they know how to talk to their kids about drugs and alcohol and recognize the warning signs that their child may already be involved. Through school-based prevention programs, we are helping young people develop the necessary skills to make responsible decisions, handle peer pressure and lead healthier lives.

According to the National Institutes of Health, prescription pain medications such as Oxycontin and Vicodin are among the most commonly abused drugs in the United States. Abuse of these drugs often serves as a first step toward heroin abuse.

For those already struggling with addiction, our Chemical Dependency program offers individual and group counseling programs to support their journey to recovery. We also offer medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction.
