With four drop off locations to choose from, the cool weather didn’t keep people from dropping off their unused medications so they could be disposed of safely. Thanks to the efforts of Homer Police Chief Pitman, we were able to add a new location in Homer that was a tremendous success….over 60 cars came through! Once again, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department provided support for the collection events in Cortlandville, Marathon and Cincinnatus. Over 1,300 pounds of unused medications were collected from the combined locations.
Did you know that most people who abuse prescription drugs got them got them at home, or from friends and family? Cleaning out your medicine cabinet of unused or unneeded prescriptions can help prevent this.
The medication collection events would not be possible without all the great volunteers who help out, including the RSVP members from the Cortland County Area Agency on Aging, the County Sheriff’s officers, Village of Homer Police Department and individual pharmacists who give of their personal time. Staff from Cortland Prevention Resources and Cortland Area Communities That Care organized the event and assisted volunteers.
